Longsands Sixth Form

The warmest welcome to Longsands Academy Sixth Form – where we provide an excellent, inclusive academic education for all our scholars, and also a lot more!

At Longsands, we believe passionately that all scholars have the potential to succeed in life and in our Sixth Form we give them the opportunity to do just that.

Our dedicated and passionate team of well-qualified and highly-skilled teachers encourage scholars to strive for their academic best, in a supportive environment with smaller class sizes that gives plenty of opportunity for enrichment and development, so scholars leave us prepared for post 18 studies and ready to enter the world of work.

We provide a range of A Level courses to suit all interests, as well as a small number of Level 3 BTEC qualifications, and scholars achieve excellent results. However, we recognise that education is not solely based on achieving those vital qualifications, but also about becoming a confident young adult. We offer high quality pastoral care, careers guidance, and Higher Education support so that our scholars are fully informed of the wealth of opportunities open to them in the future.

Our Sixth Form is in the heart of the community, serving the two secondary schools in St Neots and beyond. Scholars are encouraged to take their place as role models and mentors to those in younger years. We place a high emphasis on respect and positive behaviour, which ensures the Sixth Form is a happy and safe place to learn. There is a vibrant scholar body with a wide range of enrichment and leadership activities for scholars to get involved in.

We are ambitious for our scholars, and our expectations of conduct and commitment are high. Our Sixth Form is a place for scholars who want to work hard and realise their potential, and we are proud to support them on their journey.

Thank you for your interest in our Sixth Form. I look forward to meeting you and working together with you to help make your future a successful and exciting one.

Mr J Myhill-Johnson – Head of Sixth Form

Apply before January 14th via the MyChoice16 website.

What our scholars think

“My subject teachers were very passionate and made my learning enjoyable and fulfilling.”

“If I ever needed help, I knew I could contact a member of Sixth Form and would get all the help I needed.”

“The Sixth Form team are the most supportive people I ever met.”

“It’s a great place to make new friends and learn new subjects in depth.”

How to apply

Log into your MyChoice16 account and choose ‘My Applications’ from the options. If you haven’t yet started an application click on the ‘Start a new Application’ button, otherwise click on the ‘continue’ button next to the application you want to work on. This page allows you to access all the sections of your application and indicates your progress in each section.

If this is your first application and you haven’t completed your Profile Template you will need to complete all the sections first. For additional applications, your profile details will have been saved and just the ‘Course Choices’ will need completing.

Your qualifications will be uploaded by the school, you will not be able to amend them – so you can skip this section. The reference will be added by your form tutor.

Complete any additional fields or checkboxes and click the ‘Send Application’ button to send your application.

Your application will now be at the next status (Sent, Schools Hold). Your school will then check your application is suitable and meets the requirements. You may be asked to discuss this with a teacher.

Once your application is sent it is your responsibility to monitor the progress of your application and respond to any notifications you have been sent.
