Under exceptional circumstances, such as during a period of national lockdown, it may be necessary for Longsands Academy to transition to remote learning for scholars. This page contains information and guidance about remote learning arrangements.
Remote Learning
The remote education we provide at Longsands will be as close as possible to any normal day in school. Our remote learning offer will be a combination of pre-recorded lessons, independent work and live lessons with the timetabled teacher delivering lesson content or instructions to scholars. All remote learning, including live lessons and independent work, will be communicated via Microsoft Teams.

For any technical or password issues please email enquiries@astrea-longsands.org and add the subject line: Technical/Password
Critical workers and vulnerable children
We are open to supervise the children of critical workers and vulnerable children. This provision is offered to the children of parents and carers who are critical workers or meet another critical criterion who are unable to work from home and/or unable to make other arrangements for their children so have no alternative but to attend school. Scholars attending school will be supervised by staff in following the remote learning offer. Places are booked by completing a form that is sent out on a weekly basis.
Access to equipment and technology
We remain committed to ensuring every scholar has access to an electronic device so that they can continue to receive a high quality of education. We are acutely aware that remote learning places significant pressures on family access to IT, particularly where there are two or more siblings in the household. We do have a limited number of laptops available to loan to scholars to enable remote learning where this would otherwise be impossible. Please contact enquiries@astrealongsands.org to discuss your child(ren)’s situation further.
Free School Meals
Scholars who are eligible for Free School Meals will be offered support via vouchers. If you have any queries on this please email enquiries@astrealongsands.org and add ‘Free School Meals’ in the subject line.
Safeguarding and wellbeing
We want to ensure that your child’s welfare and well-being is protected. Since March 2020, we have monitored an open email address – safeguarding@astrea-longsands.org for scholars, and parents and carers to contact us if they are anxious or worried during lockdown. We have a range of resources and advice to help support your wellbeing on our website, and our scholar support team remain ready and available to support you with your learning and your general progress
